Ben Tackett, MA, MDIV, LCMHCA
By God’s grace, you can do it–you can make it through this dark valley!
I specialize in adult individual therapy. I walk alongside folks through things like abuse, addiction, anxiety, depression, grief, phobias, relationship issues, and traumatic experiences. I can help with anger management, emotional regulation, stress, and adjusting to the curve balls life throws at us.
Trouble turning off ruminating thoughts? Paralysis-by-analysis? We’ll begin practicing emotional flexibility skills during your first session–skills that help with things like overthinking or even too much technology. Let’s talk about it.
Spiritual struggles? Alongside clinical care, I offer pastoral counseling. I love encouraging Christians through difficult times and helping them lean into their relationship with God through prayer and Scripture. I’ve been in ministry for three decades and have an inside perspective on the problems Christians and pastors face. I do not offer child, couples, or marriage and family therapy.
Together lets explore all the bio-psycho-relational aspects of how you feel so you can start moving towards the meaningful life you want. I look forward to hearing your story so don’t hesitate to reach out!
Clinical Therapy
I graduated from Montreat College with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2025. I use a variety of evidence-based treatments like acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), exposure response prevention (ERP), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
- Acceptance commitment therapy helps a person get unstuck from unhealthy thoughts, develop psychological flexibility, and move towards their deepest values.
- Cognitive behavior therapty helps recognize common distorted thoughts and replace them with healthier ones. Exposure response prevention is similar and helps break our conditioned responses to thoughts or stimuli by forming new responses.
- Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy utilizes eye movements or tapping in order to accelerate the brain’s capacity to heal itself from troubling memories.
I am licensed as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate in North Carolina–LCMHCA. The “A” at the end of LCMHCA stands for “associate.” This means a counseling supervisor insures you get the best possible care!
Pastoral Counseling
I’ve been in ministry since 1997 when I earned a Master of Divinity (M. Div.) from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. I counsel from a Biblical worldview and pastoral perspective. Before that I graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. It’s in my DNA to understand every client from their own unique personal & cultural background.
I was born in eastern Kentucky. My wife and I have been married for thirty-four years and we have 5 adult children. I have worked in ministries, churches, and schools from Manhattan to Charleston. I enjoy reading the Psalms, biking gravel roads, and any chance to get outdoors.
